When it comes to lunching I consider myself an expert. When people ask me what I do for fun, what my hobby is, I tell them “I lunch.” Good food with good friends makes me happy. So when I stumbled on this little gem called Liberty Market in Gilbert Arizona I was ecstatic. Located in small town Gilbert, Arizona this independent restaurant features breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their menu has a trendy American vibe with sloppy joe sandwiches as their highlight of the menu. My last visit a friend and I split the white wood fired pizza with parmesan cream sauce, smoked mozzarella, grilled chicken, chopped bacon, arugula, and pine nuts. We also shared the Rancher salad with mixed greens, grilled steak, caramelized onion, arugula, blue cheese, croutons, finished with chipotle vinaigrette. This is a great steak to order with the girls at lunch or to split with your husband at dinner. The men love the steak and blue cheese and the mixed greens still give it a “salad vibe” perfectly acceptable for a lady to order at lunch.

Liberty Market is located on 230 N. Gilbert Rd in Downtown Gilbert. You can’t miss its location right next to the historic water tower. Liberty Market is in partnership with Joe’s Real BBQ and Joe’s Farm Grill. All the restaurants try to incorporate the organic produce produced at Joe’s Farm so you know you will be getting the freshest selection of tomatoes, greens, and herbs right farm the farm.

The location’s exterior gives off a retro vibe, with its old fashioned signage and art deco styled numbers on the door; you can feel the retro modern idea of the restaurant right away. What is so impressive is the continuous use of the Liberty Market Logo; from its outdoor signage, the logo imprinted in the concrete when you walk in, and the Liberty Market logo once again contrasting against a stainless steel wall, you know where you are at and what the feel for the place is right away.

As you enter the restaurant you order at the counter, pay, and sit down with service staff delivering your food. There are so many lovely choices from the salmon blt sandwich to the fresh artichoke side dish to their famous tall red velvet cake and carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. The desert area promises a full tummy with sconces, cake, brownies and larger than life cookies.

The retail area comes alive right next to the wood fired stove and provides imported luxuries such as water, beer, wine and food cooking oils. It’s a Perfect place to pick up a bottle of a fun and refreshing Pommery Pop Champagne for date night with your man and take out a fresh wood fired pizza.
For Breakfast I would recommend the Western Scramble. Eggs scrambled with flank steak, grilled red bell pepper, cheddar cheese, Liberty potatoes, biscuit, salsa casera or horseradish cream.
For Dinner try the Apricot Glazed Chicken with grilled double chicken breast, apricot glaze, savory whipped sweet potato, and the seasonal vegetable of the day. I would also not leave without trying a cup of the minestrone soup. The soup is a lovely mix of Italian vegetables, pasta, pesto, and pecorino-romano. The scoop of pesto on the top is what makes this a fabulous cup of soup.

Liberty Market also features an espresso bar called E-61 Bar. You can sit back and relax and enjoy a Café Cubano: cuban espresso and raw sugar or a Caffé Corretto: espresso, grappa or sambucca, and raw sugar.
Lunch tends to be busy, with a big line waiting to order their food. But it is all worth the wait. Hours of operation are Hours of Operation Monday – Saturday 7:00am – 9:00pm and Sunday 7:00am – 8:00pm.

My favorite part of Liberty Market, next to the food of course, and maybe the atmosphere as well, are the bathrooms. The bathrooms you say!! Yes the bathrooms. The restrooms at Liberty Market are located in the back of the restaurant. Looking in to the bath you see several doors on one side of the walls marked with either M/W or just M. Opposite are sinks and storage. The doors, besides the one singularly labeled M, are unisex bathrooms. The M/W in deco inspired letters lets you choose which door you would like to go in. Of course I had to check them all out, and my predictions were true, every single bathroom is designed differently.

From an ADA accessible room with a unique floor tile pattern to the mens only featuring red and black tile and a duravit wall hung urinal. It certainly gives it some flair and interest into the space. The sinks as you exit are unisex and there are windows that look directly out to the garden patio area.

You need to try this place for breakfast lunch or dinner, you will be rewarded with a laid back retro style restaurant, making common food amazing, and using the freshest ingredients Liberty has access too, including Joe’s Farm and other farming resources.
