I can’t get enough of vintage.
When I graduated from interior design school back in 2002 I would never consider vintage style to my liking. I was fresh out of college and in love with everything contemporary. Less is more was my motto (ok Mies originally said it) and clean lines and modern furniture was all I wanted to design. I don’t know when the traditional bug actually hit me, but it did, and when the vintage trend came along, I could not get enough. I fell in love with the store Anthropologie, loved the look of traditional home, found myself at antique stores and coveted the newest issue of Country Living.
I remember my first adventure in design when I was 8 years old reading my mother’s latest issue of Country Living magazine. I would rearrange the furniture in our living room and my mom would yell at me to put it back to where it was before. My response was “but mom, our house doesn’t look like the one in the magazine.” Doilies and amish craft dolls were the rage back then and for years I would make fun of my mother’s “country living craft house”. So much different than the country living of today, antique cabinets and homemade finds, baked apple pies, and flea markets make me swoon.
So no wonder I fell in love with Domestic Bliss’s vintage style store Found. It is located in downtown Mesa and is a creation of the owners of another one of my favorite stores, Domestic Bliss. The store is full of new and old; almost where you can’t tell where one end meets and the other begins. The store hosts a brilliant color scheme of greys and “greige.” Bicycles hang from the ceiling, antique linens cover new chairs, and artful displays are eye candy for the eyes.
You can visit Found’s blog at http://foundbydomesticbliss.blogspot.com or you can visit them at 166 West Main Street in Downtown Mesa Arizona. Check their websites for hours since they are limited or are open often by appointment only. Also stop by their original store next door, Domestic Bliss.
